Day 6

Today was a rather uneventful day. It started out with class, which was interesting but I found myself nodding off towards the end of it. I have got to get my sleep pattern under control; it’s really starting to get to me. In class we learned about William the Conqueror and then we moved on to start talking about medieval London. My interesting fact that I learned today is that Green Park (the park just outside of Buckingham Palace) once was home to a leper colony, and that’s why there are no flowers in the park. Lepers lived there, died there, and were buried there. It’s a diseased place, or so the tale goes. After class I came home and took a nap for a few hours because I wanted to be able to stay awake for the theater. I went out this afternoon to check out a store called H&M that’s apparently really cheap and filled with cute clothes. I didn’t think it was anything too special, nor were the prices very low. It was just a regular department store, really. Then I went over to Marks and Spencer to cash some travelers checks, and then I took the tube up to Notting Hill to check out a store called Lime Radio that is having a 5 pound sale. Everything was 5 pounds. I didn’t see anything too great though. Jamie and Rachel managed to find some cute dresses, but it just wasn’t my style. Besides, I realize I can’t afford to spend money on anything that I don’t really, really want. Everything is so ridiculously expensive. I should’ve done a better job of budgeting last weekend but it didn’t hit me how much I was really spending until about Monday. But anyways, after that I came back home and just chilled out at the dorm for a while. I wanted to start making a list of the places that I want to see but I didn’t actually get to it.

At about 5:30 Jamie and I started getting ready to go to Phantom of the Opera. We got dressed up and Jamie did my makeup for me, which was fantastic, and then we went down and met Raki. The three of us went to the theater together. We rode the tube straight there and went to Her Majesty’s Theater. The play was incredible! The stage was so elaborately done, and the special effects were amazing. The best part, however, was the music. The singers were absolutely fantastic and the orchestra equally so. The music itself gave me goosebumps throughout the entire performance. I just know I’m going to have this music stuck in my head all night. The costumes were beautiful as well, and the theater itself was very plush and upscale. It was better than Seattle’s 5th Ave. I’m really interested to know what theaters there were that the people back in the 1800s went to and if any are still here today. Those are the theaters I would love to see. I’ll definitely be asking my professor that tomorrow. After the performance Jamie and I headed home, and it seemed like everyone else was going out to party tonight. It seems a little ridiculous to me that they go out every night, but maybe they have the cash to burn. I’d rather get a good night of sleep so I can pay attention in class and then have a good time on Friday night when I have nothing to worry about the next day. But I guess that’s just me. I think I’m finally going to get to bed before midnight tonight for once, and I’m very excited about that.
Love you guys!
Jaime
