Day 3

Sunday was a good day. We started out by meeting for breakfast at 11. I met a few of the girls I went out with on Saturday night and we walked to a little café called Café Concerto. I had a delicious breakfast but it was a little pricey. I’m going to have to be careful next weekend to keep breakfast and lunch cheap seeing as I didn’t do too good a job of that this weekend. After breakfast we came back to Atlantic House and met the tour group we were going with at noon. We rode the tube up to Camden Town and Keiran (one of the RAs) walked with us in a circle around the whole market. Then he told us he would meet whoever wanted to go back at 3 and the rest of us could just stay and do whatever we liked. So I went with Jamie (ironic, I know, but she’s turning out to be a really good friend) and Mandy to look around. We spent four hours at Camden and we didn’t even see the other side of the street or any of the shops on the High Street itself! We will definitely be going back another day. Camden is incredible. At this point in time it’s my favorite place in the entire world. It’s basically just a huge marketplace where vendors can set up their shops and sell their stuff. You can find everything there! There are all kinds of goth clothes shops, cutesy Japanese clothes, mod British trendy clothes, vintage good-will type shops with tons of cool stuff, antique booths, every kind of crafty thing you can imagine, posters, paintings, London gifts, traditional Indian stuff, and soooo much more! And then there’s the food. Oh man, I will be taking the tube back to Camden just to eat cheap, delicious food. Pretty much everything is under 5 pounds and there’s every cuisine you can imagine. I saw Egyptian, Brazilian, Turkish, Argentinean, Italian, Belgian, Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Polish, French, and more! I had some incredible spring rolls that were 1.50 a piece. The people in Camden were just as diverse a mixture too. There were goth kids, punks, people of all nationalities, even some guys with their hair done in massive spikes. It was all very cool. I wanted to take pictures but most of the shops on the inside said no pictures allowed, which is understandable but still disappointing. I found a few cool things there, and some things that I definitely want to go back and get. Unfortunately everything is so bloody expensive over here I’m afraid of spending all my money too quickly, so I figure if I have enough left I’ll go back for some cool stuff. Food is what’s most expensive, and we don’t get meals on weekends so I have no choice but to spend my money.

After Camden we got home at about 5:30. We chilled out for a bit back in Atlantic House (our dorm) and did the internet thing that all of us girls are so good at. At 8 we went over to the Barrier’s Arms pub that’s just down the street to get dinner. We wanted fish and chips but they didn’t have any! Instead we all just got some appetizers because none of us really wanted to have to pay an arm and a leg for weird British food. Jamie and I shared a dessert though and it was completely fantabulous. I need to start trying more desserts here. My goal is to have some delicious French dessert before I leave, maybe something Italian too.

But that was about it for Sunday. We had a good day of shopping and seeing some more of London, and dinner at a pub. Afterwards we just came home and chilled out because classes started today (Monday) and I wanted to get enough sleep before hand. I still can’t manage to fall asleep before 1 am though… the time difference is still getting to me. I wake up just fine in the morning, but falling asleep is when it hits me. It should go away soon though. I’m trying to get my blogs up each night but since the computer lab closes so early I haven’t been able to upload them until the next day. I finally got WiFi in my room today so it shouldn’t be a problem anymore. I hope everything is going well at home. Sarah, it would be okay with me if you want to hold Lily in for 3 more weeks. But if not I suppose I understand. I got her a present already from Camden. I know she’ll love it! (Hopefully you will too.)

Love you guys!
Jaime
