Day 13

Wednesday, I have to say, was not a good day. For some reason I was just not in a good mood (this had started Tuesday but today it just spiraled out of control). I figure it was the homesickness finally catching up to me. In class in the morning we went to tour the Globe. We walked past the Clink Prison Museum on the way there and I really want to go there before I leave, but it looked like it was closed so I didn’t get my chance that day. Anyways, the Globe was very cool. This version of the Globe was built as an exact replica of Shakespeare’s original theater, complete with the same type of wood and plaster used, a thatched roof, and some thousands of wooden pegs used to hold it all together. There are obviously a few modern things added, such as a sprinkler system on top of the thatched roof to prevent a fire from happening and burning the entire theater down, which is what happened to the first Globe. The second Globe that was built had a tiled roof, but it was torn down during the reformation- the days when Oliver Cromwell took over and tore down the theaters and entertainment of the city. Where the Globe stands now isn’t the exact spot where it originally stood, but with modern development it had to move. It’s not far from where it once was though. We went inside the theater and I didn’t get to take any pictures because there was actually a dress rehearsal going on! My prof says it’s the first time in 20 years he’s ever seen a dress rehearsal taking place in there, so we were really lucky to get to watch some of it. We got to see the interaction between the actors and the director. They were working on some blocking and what not. That was the end of our tour though. Class got over a little early. I walked back to the tube station with our professor in the hopes that the Clink Museum would be open by then, but it still wasn’t, so instead I went to Covent Garden and explored that area. There’s lots of cute shops and a cool market, but I’m not too keen to spend more money so shops aren’t that exciting for me. I walked over to the theater district and found Drury Lane. At least I think I did… I probably didn’t get the right place though. Now that I think of it I’m sure I didn’t. Danny said it wasn’t actually on Drury Lane, and that’s where I was… Oops, I missed that one. It was a pretty rainy and cloudy day out so I didn’t know what else to do. I ended up just heading home after that, and this was only about 1 in the afternoon. Oh and on the way I stopped to get some lunch and managed to lose 15 pounds… It must’ve fallen out of my pocket without me noticing. That definitely did not help my day get any better. So I came home and tried to relax. I worked on studying for the test that I had on Friday, and read a book for a while. I didn’t end up doing anything more exciting than that though, I just wasn’t in the mood for it. That was pretty much my entire Wednesday.

Love you guys,
Jaime
